Sherwood Hill

Welcome to Sherwood Park School   :  Sherwood Hill Campus Development

For the last few years it has been evident that Sherwood Park School on its current site at Streeters Lane could no longer meet the admission places needed for pupils living in the London Borough of Sutton aged 3 – 19 who have Severe Learning Needs (SLD) or Profound & Multiple Learning Needs (PMLD) and especially for those who in addition are on the Autistic Spectrum (ASD) and Complex Needs.

We needed to expand to ensure current and future needs of our pupils would be met. The decision was made to increase pupils on our present school site and further improve the facilities to meet the needs of pupils from 3 - 19 with SLD or PMLD. We would also have pupils aged 3 - 11 with ASD.

Our new site would be designed and a new build specifically for pupils at secondary age 11 – 19 with ASD and Complex Needs. For the last 18 months we have been working closely with Sutton Local Authority and Architype to plan and design a purpose built inspirational learning environment to meet the needs of those pupils co-located on a shared site with Oakfield – Primary ASD provision and Woodfield Primary School – both new to the site.

We are so excited that we will have a wonderful new campus that we hope will be a vibrant, inspirational learning place designed specifically to meet the very special needs of learners with ASD. In order for them to achieve aspirational outcomes  our facilities will include low arousal classrooms  with 1.1 work rooms, sensory room, gym for OT and sensory circuits, spa pool, therapy room, art/ D/T room, Lifeskills area, specialist  recreation areas including a Muga and bike track and outside learning environment.sherwoodhill

Classes will be located in KS groups with a separate entrance and facilities for students at Post 16. Our approaches to learning will be based on TEACCH principles and will incorporate working with a multi-professional team. Our staff will receive highly specialised training to ensure they understand the needs of pupils with ASD. Working with parents will continue to be a priority.

More of this news will follow but here are some layouts of our new school building and photographs of the work in progress. We are hoping to open in January 2016.

At Sherwood Park School my Staff, our Governing Body and I value the immense support that we receive from the many people associated with our school and appreciate the different ways in which we are helped. We believe that together we can provide a comprehensive education that addresses the individual needs of our pupils and enables each to achieve their fullest potential within an environment that is stimulating, safe, diverse and happy. When we open on our new campus Sherwood Hill we will ensure our ethos remains the same. Whether our pupils attend either Sherwood Park Campus or Sherwood Hill Campus we will be:-
